RENOVATION: HOW TO CHOOSE YOUR KITCHEN HOOD

The kitchen hood is an indispensable part of your kitchen. It eliminates cooking odors and helps prevent fat from sticking to your walls. The kitchen hood has evolved in many ways, esthetically as well as technically. But which criteria, then, should you consider when you select one for your kitchen?

    THE HOUSING

Today, many kinds of kitchen fans exist on the market:

The visible kitchen hood: this model requires you to plan for a specific installation placement located above your hob. While some visible kitchen fans have a classic look, others have a more thought-through design. For example, the island hood is generally of the latter kind as it is placed over a kitchen island, that is, in the middle of the room.

The concealed kitchen hood: this model is intended to be encased within the elements of the kitchen. The extractor hood is telescopic, which makes it possible to install it in a specific tall furnishing. The integrated hood is installed under a tall furnishing.

    THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF SUCTION

    • The classic suction, in center of the hood.
    • The peripheral suction, which is done in the circumference of the hood. This technology enables the hood to create a curtain of air that captures and locks in all fat and odors.

Overall, the choice of hood will depend on the space available in your kitchen. If your surface is relatively small, it is best to integrate the hood within a kitchen furnishing to optimize the space. This solution is also the most suitable if you do not want your hood to show. If you have a larger space, however, you can go for a visible hood and let your budget determine its level of design.

    THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF EVACUATION

    • Air recycling is a technique where the air and cooking steam is sucked into the hood and then de-odorized and de-fattened using a carbon filter and an anti-fat filter. Then, the recycled air is discharged into the room.
    • External extraction is a technique where the air is sucked into the hood and ejected externally through a pipe. Although this type of evacuation is the most efficient, the air recycling is a good alternative when it is not technically possible to install the former.
